This is Ryan Adams and Gillian Welch doing a soul stirring cover Neil Young’s Helpless.  The version Neil does with The Band on The Last Waltz is the only other version of this song I like nearly as much.  This track has such a great stripped down, end of the night feel.  You can actually hear glasses clanking in the background a couple of times.  Its as if they are were hanging around after a gig and laid it down while the bar staff shut down (except they play another song after it).  Guitar, harmonica and two perfectly harmonizing voices…  What else do you need?  This is the perfect counterpoint to close out my Saturday night of bustle, noise, crowds and confusion.  So pour yourself a nightcap Tumblr, sit back and let Ryan and Gillian take us home.
