Jimi Hendrix did it with Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower—this happens once in a Blue Moon— when a cover version is so unique that it eclipses the intention of the original.

Wonderwall is another one of those songs. Ryan Adams takes Noel Gallagher’s 1990’s Mancunian anthem and makes it his own. Adams arrangement on Love is Hell is softer yet haunting cover. During their 2008 tour, Adams and his Cardinals performed some killer more extended renditions of Wonderwall. After much deliberation—these two are my favorites.

I’ve been playing all week gearing up for the show on Friday and I started effing around with my harmonica.  Then I started effing around with Ryan Adams (songs).  Then I hit record on my laptop.

Its no secret, my feelings for Ryan Adams and this song in particular.  I even used it for SNMC twice, I love it so.
